CARING.COM LGBTQIA+ SENIOR HOUSING OPTIONS - THE COMPREHENSIVE GUIDE

Caring.com provides informational resources and support to help everyone make informed decisions about senior care. They aim to help millions of seniors and families select the right senior care products and services for their loved ones while also saving time and money. They have created a guide that provides a range of LGBTQIA+-friendly senior housing options, legal rights and protections, and key factors to consider when assessing senior housing options for LGBTQIA+ individuals, such as location, cost, and community atmosphere.

CENTERLINK, THE COMMUNITY OF LGBTQ CENTERS

CenterLink is an international nonprofit organization and member-based association of LGBTQ centers and other LGBTQ organizations serving their local and regional communities. Their mission is to strengthen, support, and connect LGBTQ community centers.

DIVERSE ELDERS COALITION

Founded in 2010, the Diverse Elders Coalition (DEC) advocates for policies and programs that improve aging in our communities as racially and ethnically diverse people; American Indians and Alaska Natives; and lesbian, gay, bisexual and/or transgender (LGBT) people.

FAMILY CAREGIVER ALLIANCE

The mission of Family Caregiver Alliance is to improve the quality of the life for family caregivers and the people who receive their care.

FORGE TRANSGENDER AGING NETWORK

FORGE builds strength and resilience in transgender communities. The Transgender Aging Network (TAN) exists to improve the lives of current and future trans/SOFFA (Significant Others, Friends, Family and Allies) elders.

INTELLIGENT LGBTQ+ COLLEGE STUDENT GUIDE

For prospective college students who identify as LGBTQ+, it’s important to research schools to make sure they’ve created a supportive environment. This guide discusses how to research colleges and review additional topics such as the unique challenges LGBTQ students face and the resources and legal rights available to them.

The LGBT National Senior Hotline (888-234-7243) provides a confidential safe space where seniors can speak about their unique issues concerning sexual orientation or gender identity/expression. This includes coming out issues, family dynamics, relationship concerns, elder abuse, HIV/AIDS anxiety, safer sex information, suicide, and much more.

The LGBTQ Caregiver Center aims to raise awareness of the unique challenges faced by LGBTQ Caregivers and those who care for LGBTQ individuals, empower LGBTQ Caregivers to live with pride and dignity and serve as a conduit for education, wellness, training and research.

LGBTQ+ Healthcare Directory

The LGBTQ+ Healthcare Directory is a free, searchable database of all kinds of doctors, medical professionals and healthcare providers who are knowledgeable and sensitive to the unique health needs of LGBTQ+ people in the USA.

MEMORY CAFE

A Memory Cafe is a wonderfully welcoming place for individuals with Alzheimer’s Disease or any other form of dementia, or other brain disorders. They are designed to include the care partner as well, for a shared experience. Additionally, it is helpful for people with all forms of mild cognitive impairment (MCI.)

NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH (NIH)

The National Institutes of Health (NIH), a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is the nation’s medical research agency — making important discoveries that improve health and save lives.

NATIONAL RESOURCE CENTER ON LGBTQ+ AGING

The National Resource Center on LGBTQ+ Aging is the country's first and only technical assistance resource center focused on improving the quality of services and supports offered to lesbian, gay, bisexual and/or transgender older adults, their families and caregivers.

NATIONAL RESPITE LOCATOR SERVICE

The National Respite Locator Service helps parents, family caregivers, and professionals find respite services in their state and local area to match their specific needs.

OLD LESBIANS ORGANIZING FOR CHANGE (OLOC)

OLOC is a national network of Old Lesbians 55 years or older, and their supporters, working to confront ageism in their communities and nationally. They use education and public discourse as their primary tools.

PARKINSON'S FOUNDATION

The Parkinson’s Foundation makes life better for people with Parkinson’s disease by improving care and advancing research toward a cure.

PFLAG

Founded in 1973, PFLAG is the first and largest organization dedicated to supporting, educating, and advocating for LGBTQ+ people and their families.

RETIRE GUIDE - LGBTQ+ ELDER HEALTH CARE GUIDE

This guide was created to connect the elders of the LGBTQ+ community to the resources and information necessary to help them find the care that they need.

SAGE ADVOCACY & SERVICES FOR LGBTQ+ ELDERS

SAGE is a national advocacy and services organization that’s been looking out for LGBTQ+ elders since 1978. SAGE builds welcoming communities and keeps LGBTQ+ aging issues in the national conversation to ensure a fulfilling future for all LGBTQ+ people.

THE LGBTQIA+ AGING PROJECT - THE FENWAY INSTITUTE

The LGBTQIA+ Aging Project works toward equity, inclusion, and community for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, and asexual older adults, ensuring that they can age with the dignity and respect they deserve. The LGBTQIA+ Aging Project is the premier resource in New England advocating specifically for LGBTQIA+ older adults.

THE LONG-TERM CARE EQUALITY INDEX

The Long-Term Care Equality Index (LEI) is a joint project of SAGE and the Human Rights Campaign Foundation designed to promote equitable and inclusive care for LGBTQ+ older adults in residential long-term care and senior housing.

THE NATIONAL LGBT CANCER NETWORK

The National LGBT Cancer Network works to improve the lives of LGBT cancer survivors and those at risk by:
EDUCATING the LGBT community about their increased cancer risks and the importance of screening and early detection;
TRAINING health care providers to offer more culturally-competent, safe and welcoming care; and
ADVOCATING for LGBT survivors in mainstream cancer organizations, the media and research.

THRIVE SS SILVER LINING PROJECT

The mission of The Silver Lining Project is to create and maintain a safe space, both virtual and physical, where Mature African American men living with HIV can share, discuss and advocate for issues impacting their community. A sub-group of THRIVE SS, they share the same mission for their target demographic, Men of Color living with HIV over the age of fifty.

ZAMI NOBLA (NATIONAL ORGANIZATION OF BLACK LESBIANS ON AGING)

ZAMI NOBLA (National Organization of Black Lesbians on Aging) is a membership-based organization committed to building a base of power for Black lesbians over the age of 40 living anywhere in the country. They center Service, Advocacy and Community Action Research.
